Premiering October 2025 at Dirty Deal Teatro, Latvia
The Cult of the Elders is a performative gathering unfolding somewhere between a ritual and a service — a collective act of resistance against the cult of anti-aging. Instead, it proposes a multifaceted surrender to the process of growing old, honouring wrinkles, weakness, wisdom, and the inevitable end. We do not fear death here , we sing to it.
Developed as a synthesis of musical and participatory theatre, the work uses music as its emotional and structural core, weaving together composed songs, live praise, and moments of shared presence.
Rooted in field research, the piece draws inspiration from religious and spiritual communities and their rituals of service, faith, and transformation. Alongside this, interviews with people of different ages and life experiences become part of the fabric — texts and testimonies merged into a newly created cult that celebrates age, not youth.
